Sylhet, Bangladesh – In a landmark ceremony today, Barrister Lutfur Rahman laid the foundation stone for the "NRB Hospital" in Osmaninagar Thana, a project aimed at transforming healthcare access in the region. Joining him were prominent guests including Foysol Choudhury MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Lothian Region and Shadow Minister for Culture, Europe, and International Development; Miles Briggs MSP; Evelyn Tweed MSP; and Farhan Khan, Head of Programs at Channel S. Additional delegates from Bangladesh will be announced in the coming weeks.

This initiative holds deep personal significance for Barrister Rahman, inspired by a tragic incident where his mother lost her life due to inadequate medical facilities while being transported to a hospital. Determined to prevent similar tragedies, Rahman has committed to building a world-class healthcare institution that serves the people of Sylhet and beyond.

A Vision of Accessible, High-Quality Healthcare

The "NRB Hospital" will operate under a trustee board, with Barrister Rahman and his four grandfathers serving as key trustees. The hospital’s leadership structure will also include prominent community figures, Members of Parliament (MPs), key opinion leaders, and senior officials from relevant government agencies.

Key Features of the NRB Hospital Project

  1. Global Partnerships:
The hospital will collaborate with a leading Scottish medical school to enhance healthcare expertise. This partnership will offer training opportunities for doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals through an exchange program, fostering skill development across both countries.

  2. Affordable and Quality Care:
The hospital’s core mission is to deliver accessible, high-quality healthcare services for the people of Sylhet and Bangladesh, addressing long-standing gaps in medical infrastructure.

  3. Community-Driven Support:
The hospital's initial funding will come from charitable contributions by Barrister Rahman and his family. Over time, the project aims to attract donations from international organizations and Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) committed to improving healthcare access in their homeland.

A Beacon of Hope for Future Generations

With today’s groundbreaking, the NRB Hospital moves closer to becoming a vital resource for the region. Barrister Rahman expressed his deep gratitude to those who have supported the project so far and reaffirmed his dedication to building a hospital that will provide dignity and compassionate care for all.

“This hospital will stand as a testament to the enduring power of community and global collaboration. It is a dream born of loss, but through this endeavor, we can create a legacy of healing and hope for generations to come,” said Barrister Rahman during the ceremony.
